About our Library

Mission Statement

The HGEC Library serves as the information resource centre that supports and enriches curricula programs and activities of school district #73 in a welcoming environment. Our mission is to provide excellent resources and services to our school district staff. We are proud to call the Henry Grube Library a place where educators can meet, learn, inspire education, share resources and engage in professional conversations about best practice.

The HGEC library provides educators with a variety of current and relevant K-12 resources that supplement school curricular materials. The library enhances resource equity among schools, helps staff access information and improves professional practice. Presently there are over 60,000 resources in our collection and approximately 1500 patrons use our system. 

Access

Patrons are welcome to visit our library in person or SD73 faculty can view and book materials online 24/7 at http://media.sd73.bc.ca. Resources are delivered weekly to schools within the Kamloops/Thompson School District. If you need assistance with the online booking program, please contact our library.

Local university practicum students and faculty. Personnel in related educational fields. 
Those who support SD73 students 
The general public may use the resources in-house.

Circulation of Materials

AV Materials & Equipment: 2 weeks
Books and Kits: 30 days
Double Bookings can be made online at media.sd73.bc.ca
or via phone 376-2291 or in person if resources are available.

Fines
Lost or damaged materials will be charged to the school.

Collection

The HGEC library provides access to a wide spectrum of resources that support the K-12 curriculum. There are a number of different collections within this library:

Professional Collection: BCTF lesson aids; ministry recommended learning resources; print and online journals; curriculum support materials for administrators, teachers, teacher librarians, parents; Aboriginal, L.A.R.T. and Fine Arts collections.

Audiovisual Collection: DVDs; videos; realia; study prints; models; etc.

Supplementary Literature Collection: Complete Gr.3-10 novel sets; literature circle kits; Gr.1-9 guided reading materials; high interest low vocabulary sets; visual literacy packs and big books.

Science Kits and Equipment: K-12 teacher developed kits and science equipment.

Heritage Library Collection: SD73 materials and documents of the past.

Databases: EBSCO BUNDLE TOOLKIT
EBSCO Bundle consists of EBSCO database, Worldbook Online and BC Encylcopedia. Online databases comprise of original texts, author biographies, poetry, prose, drama, newspapers and journals. Contact your teacher librarian for the login and password information.

Deliveries

The district has a system in place that delivers DRC resources and school mail on a weekly basis to all schools in the district. The delivery schedule is set up according to regions in the district.
